DS106 Wallpaper

For this design assignment, I had to create a ds106 wallpaper. I wanted to try something I’ve never done before in photoshop. I’ve always wanted to try a shattered glass look on a text but never got around to trying it. So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try it. Here is the final product. Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out.

I ended up editing this once more by adding a bullet hole to it (Bond’s idea). I did everything in photoshop. I first put DS106 in regular letters and then used the polygonal lasso tool to pull the letters apart. I found an image of online and used the image to cover the ds106 letters. I put a glass breaking image behind the letters to give it a shattering effect. Then I threw the bullet hole image on top of the O.

For this design assignment, I had to make a motivational poster. I decided to incorporate my character Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick for this.

In a recent interview by Boston’s News Channel 10, they interviewed Boston’s best and most notorious pool player, Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick. They asked Johnny, “What motivation can you give to your fans aspiring to be as good of a pool player like you?” Johnny responded with, “Uhh I guess the best advice I can give is hustle until you no longer have to introduce yourself.” There you have it folks, motivation at it’s finest.

The Gang’s All Here

I chose to do the design your own bumper sticker assignment for 3.5 stars. I decided to make a bumper sticker relating to my character, Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick. For Johnny, he only has three loves, playing pool, gambling/money, and drinking beer in the process. I put “The Gang’s All Here” under the pictures because that is literally all Johnny needs to satisfy him (or so he thinks). If Johnny had a car, this sticker would definitely be slapped on his bumper.

I found the pictures on google and edited this in photoshop.

Starring Jim Carey…Whoops I mean Jim Groom

For this design assignment I created a Jim Groom movie poster. At first I had no clue what movie or show I was going to use for this assignment. So I ended up googling actors with the first name Jim and the first name that popped up was Jim Carrey. I then went into Google Images and typed in Jim Carrey movies and then caught my eye on this poster:

This was one of the first movie posters I came across that was mainly Jim Carrey’s head. I decided to run with this poster and then found a picture of Groom. I used photoshop to place Groom’s head on top of Jim Carrey’s and then used the masking tool to bring back the penguins in the picture. I’ve never seen this movie before, nor have any clue what its about (something to do with penguins I’m guessing) but it ended up being a good move poster for me to work with.

Sorry Groom, I had to stretch your face a little bit more than I would have liked to cover all of Jim Carrey’s hair. Hope you’re still alive!

I decided to do the Favorite Song audio assignment in which you have to take the lyrics out of a song for thirty seconds and see if everyone can guess which song it is. The song I chose already has a fair amount of instrumental within the song (there is a hint for you) so I chose a thirty second part of the song where the lyrics are supposed to be there. The very end of the song will also probably give it away too, so you’re welcome. I edited and trimmed everything in Audacity. I decided not put this on soundcloud just in case for some crazy reason they took it down for copyright infringement.

I decided to do the Greatest Hits Storytelling audio assignment and used the band NEEDTOBREATHE.

For this mashup, I started out with a slower song and then the mashup builds into and ends with a fast paced song. I used Audacity to create the mashup and used the fade in and out effects to make the transitions sound somewhat decent. It didn’t take as long as I thought it was going to just because of all the practice I’ve had with Audacity this week.

I really enjoy NEEDTOBREATHE’s music because their lyrics aren’t words that just so happen to rhyme and sound good together, they write about real things. These five songs are about making a difference in the world. They talk about darkness and light and redemption and hope. It’s great stuff so if you don’t listen to them I highly recommend you do so!!

Here Comes Johnny!

For the sound effects story, I created Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick walking into Corner Pockets Bar and going in the back room to play a game of pool. All of these sounds are from I tried to make the background noise in the bar simmer down once he entered the back room to make it seem like he was in an exclusive pool room. This was a fun but challenging assignment since you could not use any dialogue to tell the story.

Radio Bumper

For this radio bumper I found a video of noir related music made by Daniel Carison on YouTube. I found a part I liked and cut the rest. I decided to use the more eery part of the song to give it a more intense feel to the bumper. I edited the pitch of my voice in Audacity to make it deeper because I don’t like the sound of my voice and my original voice didn’t match up well with the background music. It took me awhile to get used to Audacity but once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty addicting to use.

Wanted: Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick

WANTED: Johnny “Corner Pocket” McCormick. McCormick is wanted in all of Boston for gambling with fraudulent money. McCormick has put down thousands of dollars in counterfeit money for gambling has come out losing nothing but fake money and winning real money. It is believed that he is heading to Las Vegas to continue this fraudulent gambling scheme. $10,000 reward if brought back to the Boston Police Station (preferably alive).

How I made the picture: I found a wanted sign template off of Google Images. I then I put the wanted sign picture and the picture I used to show Johnny Corner Pocket in last week’s post into photoshop. I cropped Johnny into the space provided and then added a sepia adjustment layer to make the poster more natural.
